Dynamic Modelling and Control

Mathematical models of your physical (or in-progress) system in the format you choose. Perfect if you're looking to build your own simulation workflow that includes a suitably complex model describing the movement of your system. For example...

  • Complex suspension dynamics model for an Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV), capturing oscillations in pitch, roll and wheel loads.
  • Multi-rotor drone flight dynamics model, capturing rotor thrust, gyroscopic effects and aerodynamic drag for accurate control development.
  • Dynamic robotic arm model, capturing joint torques, link dynamics and end-effector forces for digital twin development.
Delivered as
Functional Mockup Unit (FMU)Software Package (Python / C / C++)

Simulation

Simulation packages and standalone applications designed to help you optimise your system. Perfect for clients who need ready-to-use simulation solutions to determine how different system parameters affect performance. For example...

  • Laptime simulation for racing vehicle development, setup optimisation and performance improvements through Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
  • Full simulation solution for an autonomous construction vehicle complete with a dynamic model of the vehicle and 3D virtual constructionenvironment for perception algorithm development.
  • Simulation of transient loads through a robotic arm end effector for parameterized structural analysis.

Torque Vectoring Control System for FSAE

Design, simulation and analysis of a torque vectoring controller for an all-wheel-drive Formula SAE electric race car.

Scope

7DOF nonlinear vehicle model with Pacejka tyre model, virtual driver, two high-level controllers (PI and LQR), two low-level torque distribution methods, validated across skidpad and transient scenarios.

Key Results

TVC increased lateral acceleration capability to 1.6g. Both PI and LQR controllers showed dramatic performance and stability gains. PI controller recommended for initial implementation based on superior stability-to-complexity ratio.

Tools & Deliverables

MATLAB/Simulink environment with GUI, real-time compatible architecture for HIL/RCP, comprehensive simulation framework ready for team-wide use and future C/C++ code export.

Cooper Figliomeni

FigTec Engineering is a WA-based Engineering Consultancy specialising in Design, Simulation and Dynamic Modelling. Cooper Figliomeni — a Mechatronics Engineer with experience in cutting-edge autonomous systems, structural design, dynamic modelling and technical analysis — brings these capabilities to clients across the construction, robotics, manufacturing and resources industries. One-offs, innovative prototypes and complex systems are welcomed and encouraged.

Cooper's research project produced a complete seven degree-of-freedom vehicle simulation environment in MATLAB and Simulink, featuring nonlinear tyre dynamics, multiple control architectures, and a framework designed for real-time deployment. The project was conducted for the Curtin Motorsport Team, directly informing the team's transition to an all-wheel-drive hub motor electric vehicle with torque vectoring capability.

Cooper currently works as a Mechatronics Engineer in the defense industry, working with Hardware In the Loop (HIL) simulators and electronic systems to shape the future of autonomous UAVs.

This technical background — spanning vehicle dynamics, state-space modelling, optimal control theory and professional engineering practices — forms the technical foundation of every FigTec engagement.
